Public Spaces and Minority Discourses

In most of the important cities in South Asia Christian institutions – in particular Catholic institutions – have occupied central spaces. The ‘Jesuit geographical map’ is not far behind. This may be attributed partly to the benevolence of the colonial rulers, partly to the fact that cities mushroomed around Christian educational institutions. Today that history is being questioned, rightly or wrongly.
