On 19th December 2018, over 80 ex-bureaucrats wrote an open letter to Adityanath Yogi asking him to resign as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the following reasons: the killing of a police officer by cow vigilante, the inability to rein in lynching mobs, his open bigotry, and the perversion of principles of governance, constitutional ethics, and humane social conduct. As reported by NDTV, these high ranking former civil servants also regretted the silence of the Prime Minister and called on him to act on the basis of his constitutional responsibilities.
