Prayer Dynamics in the Spiritual Exercises

The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola is broadly referred to as a ‘school of prayer’. It provides a number of formal ways of approaching God: Meditation, Imaginative Contemplation, Application of the Senses, Repetition, Triple Colloquy, Examen of Consciousness …. ‘Dynamics of Ignatian Prayer’ is one of those unique handbooks on Ignatian spirituality that puts together all the prayer-forms proposed by St Ignatius in one place, for a quick reference. It unravels the processes involved in using them effectively and effortlessly, in keeping with Ignatius’ instructions, intent and inspiration. The book contains the essence of Ignatian Spirituality as practiced today. It serves as a guide, accompanying those making the Exercises in a ‘regular’ retreat or a ‘retreat in daily life’.

Fr. Lewis undertook to write the book at the request of the Secretary for Service of Faith, as part of the Conference of Apostolic Planning and as a special gift for the Ignatian Year. I strongly recommend it for Jesuits, the followers of Ignatian Spirituality, and especially for our close collaborators in our institutions, parishes, retreat houses and social centers. The book will help in implementing the first UAP, “To show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and Discernment”. It is user-friendly and highly practical.
