Since his birth 532 years ago, the influence of St Ignatius of Loyola on the world and the Church has been truly phenomenal, both directly through his own writings, especially The Spiritual Exercises, and indirectly through the immense activity of about 2 lakh priests and brothers who have belonged to his Society of Jesus. Its current worldwide membership is about 16,000 men, but many millions more of women and men (religious or laity) are being influenced by him.
