Neuroscience and Ignatius Offer Us Clues for Wholesome Living

Young people the world over have grown up in an era marked by constant change, by life-threatening events like the Covid-19 pandemic, the environmental crises and by constant economic uncertainty. A young person’s self-consciousness and normal anxiety over performance and self-presentation, have been tested beyond what previous generations have had to endure. For educators and parents, the question is: how do we help them cope with the stresses and strains exacerbated in these difficult times?

Dr. Pereira has combined the insights of Ignatian Spirituality and the best of contemporary neuroscience research, to map out a way forward for young people and those assisting them on their journey toward maturity and wholeness. His aim is to help people achieve nothing less than “full human flourishing.” The Ignatian motto, “cura personalis,” that is, “care for the whole person” grounds his approach to examining what constitutes healthy physical development, sound psychological growth and life-sustaining spiritual formation. Strategies to counter negative emotions are presented. Also, through the ingenious use of QR codes, we have access to the original musical compositions of the author, as well as guided meditation exercises which makes this book truly a multimedia book, which will also appeal to the digital generation of today.
