Pope Francis’ mesmerizing effect on the church

The merciful message of Pope Francis has changed the way we understand ourselves and the Church. His compassionate words and challenging deeds have generated tremendous goodwill toward the Catholic Church. His simplicity has enthused the youth and the elderly. His lifestyle has created positive vibrations all around.

Taking this into account, two Jesuit professors, Frs. Vadappuram M Jose and Pandikattu Kuruvilla, have brought out “Francis Effect” – a book to reflect the hope-filled and joyful vision of the Church. It contains articles on fifty-one most impressive quotations of Pope Francis by fifty-one authors.

These popular articles deal with themes dear to Pope Francis and are specially applicable to the Indian context: experiencing God deeply; radiating joy to others; protecting life; dialogue between religion and science; seeking mercy, and finding the joy of Christian living in the background of mercy and joy.

In his Foreword, Antonio Spadaro, SJ, editor of La Civiltà Cattolica writes: “The idea here is to make the thoughts of Pope Francis available to the Indian audience by sharing lived experiences of faith, dignity, family, science, truth, openness, and the Church.”

The book carries messages from the Apostolic Nuncio, all the four Indian Cardinals and about twenty Bishops and Religious Superiors. His Eminence, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, President CBCI, writes: “I recommend this delightful little collection of reflections, to all desiring to capture something of the ‘Spirit of Francis.’ It makes truly inspiring reading.”

Fr. Bhausaheb Sansare, SJ, Rector, Papal Seminary, released the book on March 13, 2018, the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ Papacy. Indeed an Indian contribution to the whole Church and a tribute to the five years of his Papacy!
