On 19th July, 2021, Fr Stany moved on to his Creator and Lord. Born in Mangalore, after his college studies he entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Calicut. Ordained priest, and later trained in Rome for priestly formation, he taught in St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore, for many years. He also served as Rector there and as pastor of the Jeppu Parish. Later, he also taught in St Joseph’s Seminary – Allahabad, Vidya Jyoti – Delhi, Jnana Jyoti – Anekal. As Superior of Fatima Retreat House, Mangalore, he brought about growth in the retreat ministry and over-all campus development. He has also served as Parish priest in Mundgod (Karwar diocese).
He was a man of faith – a Jesuit and Priest in steady and deep contact with God. He was a man of the heart for the poor. As rector and pastor in St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, he helped many parishioners generously to build their houses. He was fatherly to the seminarians, and also reached out to many of them for their family needs. He did the same also when he was the pastor in Mundgod.
Fr Stany was a friendly and compassionate priest. Though educated in philosophy and theology, he was quite in touch with ground realities – like family struggles, moral issues, marriage conflicts and financial hardships. With a heart of the Good Shepherd, he would be non-judgemental, respectful, and go out of his way to help couples and families.
The last twelve years, he was in Fatima Retreat House, Mangalore – earlier ministering as priest, and later, as his health deteriorated, in the infirmary. He accepted his pains and ailments, in humble faith-surrender. His non-complaining, silent endurance was edifying.
We thank God for the unique and precious gift of him to the Society, the Church and for his immense service to humanity.
Fr. Thomas Quadras, SJ
