In recent years India has been witness to intolerance of dissent and pluralism, and to the rise of the fundamentalist view of Hindu Rashtra. A small minority of thinkers contests this effort to impose a single identity on the country. But they are suppressed. Today it is done more through pressure brought on mainstream media houses than direct censorship as was done during the Emergency.
