Agere Contra: More attachment to God

The glow of Ignatius has not dimmed even four hundred and fifty years after his death. One might wonder what people look forward to take from him. It is the great legacy of the Spiritual Exercises which sprang from his own life experiences. The Spiritual Exercises has made a difference in the lives of millions of people and continues to do so. This does not mean that it proposes some easy way to attain perfection in life. Rather, it touches the whole of one’s life and suggests pathways to put it in order. Hardly anyone wants to throw life away; life is a gift of God. The fulfilment of life – union with God – is desired by many. But it is not offered on a platter. One does not travel only on flower strewn pathways in the journey of life. There are pulls of the evil forces. How one responds to these situations determines one’s success in life. Ignatius proposes a way out – a mantra, we may call it. What is this mantra? How can it be practised in daily life? What is its relevance to the people of this generation? This article tries to respond to these questions and brings out a new dimension of this mantra.
