It was the year 1521. The Battle of Pamplona was on. Spain had conquered part of Navarre which rebelled with backing from France. Those from Navarre captured Pamplona which was the capital of Navarre, by defeating the Spanish troops. The defeated garrison included Ignatius of Loyola. On May 20th 1521, a cannonball struck and severely wounded one of Ignatius’ legs and shattered the other. This led to a forced lockdown for Ignatius.
