Perhaps I was lucky to be born in a family where my parents encouraged us to make our own decisions. My father’s unique philosophy was that we make our own choices about our specializations, our career, whether we marry or remain single, and, even more importantly, our spiritual choices, made under a broad framework of a good Catholic upbringing.
