“Attacks on Christians” is one of the headlines about the recent clashes in Manipur. It is not surprising, because many churches and chapels were attacked and there are allegations of some Meitei sacred places being attacked, though one could not verify it. These incidents have given the conflict a communal colour but in reality it is a decades-old ethnic conflict resulting from the complex ethnic relations and land management systems of Manipur.
