St. Ignatius wrote of the three classes of human beings with different levels of responses to God. This essay explores the role of “Superior” in terms of 3 classes of leadership: Forward, Status Quo, Regressive Leadership. Since Jesuits will not get rid of the term “Superior” and its socially backward significance, one must now accept that “Superiors” will stay to reign. But one can at least make a democratic attempt at analysing what their role implies for the survival and growth of the organization.
