One of the most important Ignatian tools I learned in the novitiate was the freedom we enjoy by possessing the Ignatian spirit of indifference. During the Ignatian Exercises, I kept on asking for this grace. By the time I completed the Exercises and made the election for life, I understood this grace and benefitted from the freedom it gave for me to make the choices in life. It is thirty five years since I made the first Exercises, and I am going to complete twenty- five years as a Jesuit Priest. I would like to reflect on this Ignatian tool for our religious life today.
