Fr. Felix was born on 2nd July 1943, to Isidore Tellis and Elizabeth Mathias at Belman, Mangalore diocese. He was the fifth among seven siblings. Parents and one brother are already in a heavenly abode. He joined the Society of Jesus on 15th July 1961 at St. Stanislaus College, Sitagarha. He was ordained a priest on 8th May 1974 at Milagres Church, Mangalore. He did his B Ed and M Ed from Annamalai University a few years later.
His priestly ministry was from 1974 to 2019, where he served as Asst. Pastor, St Joseph’s Church, Golmuri; Director of St. Joseph’s Welfare Center, Golmuri; Asst. Director of DSWC, Dhanbad; Director of CSWC, Amda; Spiritual Guide in St. Paul’s Minor Seminary, Jatni Odisha; Literacy Program at De Nobili, Digwadih; Minister and Teacher in De Nobili, Digwadih; Treasurer of Loyola School, Jamshedpur; Treasurer and Teacher at St. Xavier’s School, Lupungutu; and Treasurer and Teacher at Jesu Bhavan, Mango. From 2019 till the end of his life, he was in the province infirmary at Guidara Jesuit Residence, XLRI.
His outstanding contributions were in two areas: first, leprosy work at DSWC Dhanbad and CSWC Amda (13 years) and second, as Treasurer at Loyola Jamshedpur, St. Xavier’s Lupungutu and Jesu Bhavan Mango Jamshedpur, (20 years). He is the founder of Claver Social Welfare Center (CSWC), Amda, which serves leprosy patients – the most neglected sections of society. While shouldering the treasurer’s job, he also taught in the schools. Students liked his teaching. He was always at the disposal of the superiors for any mission, with total dedication and hard work. Towards the end of his life, he suffered silently without any complaints. The Lord called him in the early hours of 15th May 2022. May his soul rest in peace.
