We are all aware of the trauma Ignatius went through after the “cannonball incident,” the shattering of his knee in the battle of Pamplona against the French. Though more in a purely physical form at the initial stage, endured with sheer grit and determination, it ultimately led him, through a period of discernment, to lead the life he actually lived. Ignatius’ life is uniquely his, but I too have had to live through my own cannonball moment.
