Farmers of Yethadka, near Kasaragod, Kerala, pool money to build 16 temporary check dams on tributaries of the Chandragiri River, with available resources. An 11-metre high granite wall with water to the brim, they call it Katta. Handmade without any leakage, it costs one lakh to irrigate their fields; but they are life-savers.
