On 23rd May in Nepal, reports broke out about the lynching of Navaraj BK and five of his friends. According to journalistic accounts, Navaraj, a 21-year-old Dalit man, along with his companions had gone to the village of his “upper-caste” girlfriend (at her request) to take her as his wife. A mob led by the girl’s family and the village chairman, chased down the aspiring husband and his group, killed six of them and threw their bodies into a nearby river. Caste slurs were hurled at them: how dare you untouchables come to our village to take our girl in marriage.
