Corona virus has destabilized millions of people in our country. The most affected are the daily wage earners and the migrants. Of these, the ‘blacklisted’ and the ostracized from society are the ‘secluded minority’ – the transgender. For a living, they are forced into collecting money from running trains and buses; at railway stations and bus terminuses; dancing and blessing at the ceremonies of a newborn baby or at marriages or the inauguration of a new shop or a house. At times they are even forced into flesh trade. With the COVID-19 clampdown, they have nothing to live on, no house to go to and none to welcome them. Looked down upon and castigated, they are victims of society at large which still practises apartheid.
