The promulgation of GC 34, D4 in 1974 helped the nascent Kohima Jesuit Mission to understand that the option for the poor should occupy the central place in the Society’s mission. The Jesuits were invited to Kohima to start a premier institution in Nagaland. The finger of the Lord led them away from Kohima, towards a more effective accompaniment of and service to the poor in rural areas. The need to address the changing times professionally became the need of the hour in their ministry. D4 of GC 32 and later GC 34 permeated all their ministries and guided their works.
