The anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) fire lit in Assam spread to the rest of the Northeast and to Peninsular India but with different priorities. Its focus for the protesters in Peninsular India is discrimination based on religion and the secular nature of the Constitution. In the Northeast because of their experience of the last seven decades the issue is land, identity, culture and language.
